Because currently I worked in a newspaper company, I have the opportunities to redesign the online version of their newspaper. I have not done any newspaper website design before and this is a great challenge for me. I always think that it is hard to create designs that has large amount of content and the flexibility of the layout, as well as how to make it usable to readers.

From my research, online version of Newspaper or magazine must have a layout that allow people to quick scan the latest news and quickly know the news that matters the most of the particular day. To support this, we can use white space, typography, colors etc to achieve this result. Besides that, also have to think of how to make space for advertising without taking too much attention away from the main content. Lets rewind back the time to 2006, exactly five years ago when I just graduated in college and started my career as Web Designer. That time, I was fresh, ready for challenges but inexperience. Back in my school, the course didn’t teach much but just the basics of the Web Design skills, and I’m the only designer in the company that I joined after graduation.

With no senior that I can refer to for Web Design skills, and the school taught me the old style web development skill like building a website using Table and lacking CSS skills, I decided to look for learning materials online. Soon, I found out some really useful websites and great designers that influenced me during my early career as Web Designer.
