Since the last book review, Tuttle Publishing sent another set of four colourful and interesting “Cool Japan” books to me and I was really stoked about it. I’m very fond of the new books that talks about the variety of Japanese related cultures and topics, aiming at giving people outside of Japan hints on how Japan actually looks like.
I have read the books and will share my reviews and opinion here on this blog, split into 2 blog post with 2 book review each. The first two books that I want to share is “Japanese Schoolgirl Confidential: How Teenage Girls Made a Nation Cool” and “Clueless in Tokyo: An Explorer’s Sketchbook of Weird and Wonderful things in Japan”
On the previous post, I have read the book Cool Japan Guide, and today I’m going to introduce four more interesting Japanese related books, published by Tuttle Publishing.
These four books are: “Making out in Japanese”, “Cool Japan Guide ~Fun in the land of manga, lucky cats and ramen~”, “Japanese Kanji Made Easy: Learn 1000 kanji and kana the fun and easy way” and “Japanese Design: Art, Aesthetics & Culture”. Tokyo is such a diversified destination with so many different lifestyles and cultures breathing under it, it’s difficult to describe it with just one word. But all can agree that Tokyo is the capital of Cool!
Today I want to introduce a new book called “Tokyo: Capital of Cool”, authored by Rob Goss. This book is really useful to foreigners from around the world who plan to travel to Tokyo, Japan to witness its coolness. It briefly talks about what Tokyo is about and showcasing the uniqueness of different sightseeing locations within different parts of Tokyo. Each page comes with a mix of images and text and you will be amazed at how crazy cool Japan is.
Back in the year 2007, I posted an article “Japanese kaoani and emoticon” on where you can look for cute Japanese style emoticons. It’s almost 7 years ago and is such a relieve that the site is still active! Today, I’m going to introduce to you another site that you can find many cute emoticons!
This website is called JapaneseEmoticons. You can find all sorts of examples like emotions, animals and many other unique and more modern one. Well you can browse through all of the emoticons and copy paste the emoticons you like!

I strongly felt that when I was in Tokyo 4 years ago and attended two art events that were flooded with people.

In Japan, the sense of architecture design has been outstanding for all these years. But through the years, the aesthetic value of the architecture and the concept of living has been changing to fit the owners vision of life and their modern lifestyle. In this post, we will dive into some of the modern cool looking Japanese houses.
Below are some examples of modern architecture designs that I found on the Internet that I would like to share with you guys. As you can see the shape of the houses are normally geometrical and very minimal interior design, using a lot of wood and glass that allows huge amount of natural lights to light up the inside during the day. It makes the space bigger and also able to save electricity too. Please check them out!
There are many websites that designers and artists can use to showcase their brilliant works for example: Dribbble, Behance, DeviantArt and more. With these sites, designers able to showcase their works, find inspiration, make new friends and get more exposure too! Today, I’m going to introduce JAYPEG, a design showcase site that originated from Japan.
The interface design of the JAYPEG website is really clean and minimal. The navigation is really straightforward, and the uploaded designs were arranged in a form of stack. There are only three public stacks at the moment: The Popular stack showing the popular entries; the Latest stack that displays the latest uploads; finally the Newbie stack for first timer. In there, we can find some really nice designs from Japanese designers. Below are some of the cool examples.
Mount Fuji… what a beautiful mountain. Located on the Honshu island, Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan at 3776 meter height. It’s very well-known iconic symbol for Japan, and often featured in paintings and photographs. In this post, I’m going to share with you really nice photos of Mount Fuji from various photographers.
I was lucky to see Mount Fuji with my own eye on a clear day when I was in Japan three years ago. The shape of the mountain is extremely symmetrical and harmony. I wish to climb the mountain one day and also taste the famous black egg at Owakudani which is near Mount Fuji. Continue reading to check out the photos!
